Biggest Success: I only saw the show twice before we opened! The tour came in with all of the paperwork prepped for me, and I had a day and a half to learn the script and calling SM track. Our cue list changed a bit through the first performances, but ultimately, I was able to run the show successfully, even though I had not been working on it for very long. It was also very helpful that the show is a jukebox musical; my, albeit limited, knowledge of 80s and 90s girl-group pop came in handy!
Biggest Challenge: Running backstage by myself. At the same time that this show ran, FL Rep was also producing Little Shop of Horrors and was already understaffed. Girls Night does not require a large crew, but the lack of extra hands was felt almost every day. I was alone backstage, so any emergency fixes were on me... while calling the show. I had a mobile headset, so I was able to leave my calling station and handle issues as they came up. In one instance, I had to replace a actor's body mic batteries while calling cues to a song! Luckily, at this point in the run, I was familiar enough with the cues that I didn't need my book for that part.
In addition, I was also the wardrobe crew. Asside from my regular clean-up after the show, I sprayed down the costumes and ran laundry. My post-show checklist took about 45-55 minutes in total.
