This was my Advanced Practicum/Capstone for my Theatre Major. By stage managing this production and writing a reflection paper, I earned 3 academic credits.
With only 4 weeks of rehearsal before Tech, this production was already on a tight schedule. In auditions, we decided to double-cast the lead role, Christopher, which meant we would need to spend extra rehearsal time making sure both actors could rehearse equally.
A week into rehearsals, conflicts arose that caused the director and nearly half the cast to leave the production. Luckily, we were able to quickly find a new director, but left with 6 actors (instead of 11) and only a week and a half until Tech, we scrambled to block the show from scratch. We rearranged the ensemble tracks to make sure all roles were filled, including recasting one of the principal characters from our remaining ensemble members, and adding a new track for the "spare" Christopher.
As if our luck couldn't get worse, one of the Christophers left the show for health reasons, and our assistant director stepped into the newly created ensemble track. And then it snowed. We missed two rehearsals heading into Tech, and we did not have a full run of the show until our Crew View run.
Because we had lost so much load-in time to snow, Tech was a slow process, especially with this show's multimedia aspects, but by dress rehearsals a few days later, we were running smoothly.
When we lost cast members, we adjusted the tracks so that four ensemble members could fill all of the necessary roles.
